17 schools vie in drum, bugle tilt Seventeen elementary and secondary schools will join the 2014 TamborTrumpaMartsaMusika competition of the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival. Dr. Nelly H. Valerio, Iloilo City Schools Division superintendent, said twelve elementary schools and five secondary schools will participate in the drum and bugle/lyre competitions on January 24, 2014 at the Freedom Grandstand here. Valerio said eight schools are from Iloilo City, three are from Iloilo province and one from Guimaras. The eight city-based schools are Iloilo Central Elementary School, A. Montes I Elementary School, La Paz I Elementary School, Jaro I Elementary School, Jaro II Elementary School, Sambag Elementary School, Cubay Elementary School, and Arevalo Elementary School. The three schools from Iloilo are Alimodian Central Elementary School, Sinamay Elementary School, and Dingle Central Elementary School. San Miguel Central School of Jordan town will representGuimaras province. For the secondary level, the participants are Iloilo City National High School, R. Avanceña National High School and Jalandoni Memorial National High School, all in Iloilo City; andAjuy National High School and Dingle National High School from Iloilo province. Valerio said a foot parade of all the participating schools will kick off from Bonifacio Drive to the Freedom Grandstand where the actual competition will take place at 8am. The contestants will be judged on performance and drill formation (40 percent) and music (60 percent). The champion will receive P25,000; first runner up, P20,000; and second runner up, P 15,000. Non-winning schools will receive P5,000 each as consolation prize.
