18 till I die came out just a very short while before one of my best friends was diagnosed with brain cancer. While driving in my truck with PJ Smith driving from my bagpipe practice to meet up with my other half, both of us--just out of the blue had asked each other if we had heard the newest song of Bryan Adams, which was 18 till I die. WE both made a promise to each other that if one of us should pass away, the one still alive would make sure that this song was played at the wake since this really described us to a T!! We were not immature or causing any harm to anyone or property, we just enjoyed life so very much and always considered ourselves to be 18”, we had a lot of energy, loved going out and riding our motorcycles to anywhere / everywhere, as long as we were on our bikes we were happy and once we arrived at where ever we may have been riding to we made sure that everyone around us also enjoyed the time that they were having. Just a very short while after we made this promise to each other, PJ was diagnosed with brain cancer. Before we even knew about the cancer invading his body we had made this promise to each other. I will forever miss my best friend PJ Smith and was reminded once again how very short life is and what a frigging horrible disease Cancer is since another of my best friends of long ago, my police academy partner and back -up on the East Hampton Police Department ( Eric (Ricky) Stevens) just passed away way, way too young and he left behind his loving children & wife and so many other relatives & friends. Oh, IF I am allowed near those pearly gates of heaven when I pass away, I NEED to have a word with God about getting rid of this damned Cancer, it has taken both of my parents and now two of my great friends. I just read that Bryan Adams will be performing at the Bushnell, seeing that he is the one who wrote a song about my best friends & I ( without ever even knowing or seeing us that is,) then I think that it is only right to watch him perform and HOPE that he plays our theme song!! Rest in Peace PJ & Ricky, so many of us will forever remember all of those great times in our lives in which you were part of, you have given me so many great memories BUT God, how I wish so very much that cancer had NEVER caught you as you were on your journey through life, Thank you both for allowing me to be part of your short lives and here is the song once again for you!!
