18 years after its release, Eric Rohmers Conte dété/A Summers - TopicsExpress

18 years after its release, Eric Rohmers Conte dété/A Summers Tale finally gets U.S. distribution. I just came home from it and its great, of course. But I did experience the trauma of a full theater and a total stranger sitting right next to me. Thats a thing I do not like. Strangers are so named because they usually are. Thats why they named that one movie after them. Therefore, I go out of my way to avoid sitting next to anyone. Sometimes, if the seats arent big enough, I even make Duralde leave a seat between us. I like my space. But today there was such a high demand among Los Angeles idle old people for talky French drama, there was so much Rohmer hunger among them, that they filled up the Laemmle Royals smaller screening room and made me choose between packing myself in right next to some rando in a track suit wearing cologne and sitting on the front row. And the front row is about eight feet away from the screen. I survived the ordeal thanks to deep breathing and really quality self-talk like, Youre the scary looking one in this situation. It will be fine. What Im saying is that this is all William Bibbianis fault for not having time to join me and protect me from the weird people.
