1877 - July 6, Pascagoula Star STAR BEAMS --- Figs are ripe. --- Barbecue at CUMBEST BLUFF, 21st. --- A very large shark, measuring 7 3/4 feet, was caught on last Monday at the Seashore. --- Two very large sea-turtles were caught upon Horn Island last week, one of which weighed 255 pounds. --- The war in Europe still continues, in consequence of which the high price of watermelons remains unchanged. --- A newspaper is the only instrument which can drop the same thought into a thousand minds at the same moment. (Wonder what this editor would think of the Internet and Facebook, etc.) --- If you want something cool and refreshing these hot summer days just step into the Postoffice Exchange (saloon) and get Dick to mix you a MINT JULIP or an ice-cold LEMONADE. --- Calicoes of latest styles and patterns for summer are now being opened by Uncle Henry at Dees Store. Board of Supervisors - ROADS F. M. JOHNSON, JOHN JONES and JOHN M. GOFF were appointed a committee to lay out and mark a road from the FAGGARD PLACE through the PASCAGOULA SWAMP to FOREHANDS FERRY. JOSEPH PARKER was appointed overseer of the road from ten mile post near the residence of DAVID HAVARD to the RIVER ROAD in BEAT No. 1 (George County now) E. G. BYRD and Dr. T. H. MOODY were appointed commissioners to draw plans and specifications for a bridge across BIG CREEK on HOWELL FERRY Road. J. C. ELY and SEBURN CARTER were appointed commissioners to draw plan and specifications for bridges across the BIG SLEW on FARMERS FERRY Road in DOG RIVER SWAMP, and across BLACK CREEK on the RIVER Road, if in their judgment new bridges are needed, as if not to report what repairs are necessary. Allowances made to D. W. MILLS, for building bridge across BLACK CREEK on SARACENNA ROAD. Payable out of Bridge Fund, $100. and... MRS. JANE PARKERs name was stricken from the pauper list, and an order made at a former term rescinded.
