19 August 2014 The African National Congress has noted the labour dispute between the Morula Pictures, the SABC and some its employees who are members of the Generations cast. This recurring dispute between the parties has once again captured headlines and sparked nation wide discussion due to the centrality of Generations as South Africas longest running and much loved soapie. The ANC welcomes the proactive step taken by the ANC Youth League to meet with the dismissed cast members in an effort to assist the process. For its part, the ANC has also requested the intervention of the Ministers of Communications and Labour in the dispute. To this end, Comrade Faith Muthambi will be meeting with the SABC to understand the circumstances surrounding the dismal of these workers. South Africa prides herself on a progressive labour relations regime which at its core seeks to protect and promote the rights of workers. It is our hope therefore that all entities, private and public, conduct themselves within the ambit of this empowering legislation for mutual benefit. We thus call for a speedy and amicable resolution of the current impasse between the two parties in the interest of fair labour practice based on mutual respect for each others crafts and imperatives.
