1990. A band with some naming issues. Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams left the band Sisters of Mercy in 1985, and formed a new project which they named The Sisterhood. Andrew Eldritch of Sisters of Mercy promptly registered the Sisterhood named for himself, so Hussey and Adams had to choose a new moniker: The Mission. When the band launched an American tour in 1987, they discovered that a Philadelphia R&B band already called themselves The Mission, and so have been known as The Mission UK in the U.S. ever since.
