19TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: “Where your Heart is, there also - TopicsExpress

19TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: “Where your Heart is, there also is your Treasure”(Luke 12:32-48). We are a being, like any other animal, that is driven by desire. And that same desire teaches us to focus on priorities we all need to treasure most. For that we are challenged to “prioritize priorities”. And to do that one has to see “where his heart is” for there is seat of his priority par excellence. Today’s Gospel seems to point to a fact that we have, in reality, NO TREASURE to speak of, but only that of the Master. We are just but stewards of “The Treasure of The Master”. It is so because the Master is the author of everything, therefore, he has the claim to anything and everything, even the simple desires we have in our hearts. In short, only in the Master is the fulfillment of our being, for we will always be but only Stewards and Care Takers of the things and treasures of the Master who for the time being is seemed out in a journey - Therefore, “blessed are the Servants whom the Master finds vigilant on his arrival”. And further it quotes JESUS saying, “Who then is the faithful and prudent steward whom the master will put in charge of his servants to distribute food allowance at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. Truly, I say to you, he will put him charge of all his property”. Then, today’s Gospel Mandate is simple. As Stewards of the Master we should only have in our hearts the Will and the Desire of the Master! If not, we should only but have the Will of our Master as our Only Desire, as our Only Priority and as our Only Treasure! THEREFORE, what GOD has endowed us with, we have the obligation to use the same for the good and enjoyment of all. For this is the Will of the Master. That, we cannot claim the Health, Power, Talents, Wealth and even Time we are gifted with as absolutely for our own exclusive usage then. Everything given to us are meant for others too. As we beautifully describe it in a song, “Walang sino man ang nabubuhay para sa sarili lamang”. So also we sing, “We are made for service to care for all men”. In short, there is attached Social Responsibility to anything we are stewards with - that if we are endowed with Power and Authority, let us be “Public Servants. That if we are Graced with Wealth, then let us be Generous, to reflect the Generosity of the Master. That if we are Gifted with Health, let us be sources of Strength and Support for the Sick, the Despised and the Weak! May we come to realize that like the Movie, SPIDERMAN, the Gospel today reminds us saying, “Much will be required for the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more”. Or, “with Great Power comes Great Responsibility”. A Grace-filled Sunday. GOD bless.
