1Co 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 1Co 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings , helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 1Co 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing ? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? I’m still floored by these scriptures many years later. The word for healing here is “iama,” and it only appears 3 times in the Bible. In the Greek, when a noun ends in “ma” in the singular, or “ maton” in the plural, it signifies the effect, the result or the fruit. Iama comes from the word iaomai, which signifies healing as a cure. This is stronger than the other healing word, therapeuo. The latter can refer more to a therapeutic healing which can be an elongated process. Iaomai, is a cure. Iama, is the effect or the result of the cure, or that which has brought the cure. Thus, iama, in reality is the word, medicine. The gifts of healings ( iamaton ) are the gifts of spiritually given medicines to affect the cures It’s all happens by our faith when we know that God has given us the faith to release the proper medicines or iamaton.
