1st Intl Reseacrh Conference on K2 to 12 curriculum for 21st centtury being held in Albay. Education is the key to success - Salceda Ang 1st International Research Conference on K2 to 12 Curriculum for 21st Century Learning: A Global Perspective ay patuloy na ginagawa sa Oriental Hotel, Lungsod ng Legazpi, Albay simula noong Agosto 20 hanggang ngayong araw. Ito ay dinadaluhan ng mahigit isang libong researchers at educador sa buong kapuluan at international observers mula sa United Kingdom at Canada. Sinabi ni Bicol DEP ED Regional Director Orfelina Tuy ang Tanggapang Reyonal ng Department of Education sa Bicol at IV-A ang siyang nangangsiwasa sa aktibidad katulong ang Bicol Association of Schools Supt na may 27ng miembro. Sinabi ni Tuy ang tatlong araw na international conference hinati sa 8ng group sessions para sa 285ng research papers. Ang bawat research work ay tatalakayin sa loob ng 30ng minuto. Layunin nitong makabuo ng critical mass on research. Bukod pa rito, ang bawat desisyon o polisiya ng departamento dapat ibatay sa masusing papanaliksik. Dagdag pa ni Tuy, matapos ang pulong siya ay nakatakdang magbigay ulat sa naging resulta ng pulong sa punong tanggapan. Aniya ito ay magsisilbing batayan ng desisyon o ng policy making body ng departamento ukol sa implementasyon ng K2 to 12 curriculum. Sinabi pa ng opisyal, ang international conference na ito ay may relasyon sa idinaos na National Research Forum sa Lungsod ng Naga noong nakalipas na taon. Kaugnay nito, Sina Undersecretary Dina Ocampo, Asst Secretary Lorna Dino at Albay Governor Joey Sarte Salceda bilang major guests sa opening day ay hindi nakahabol dahil sa kanselasyon ng flight patungong Legazpi dahil sa epekto ng habagat sa Metro Manila. Gayonpaman si Vice Gov Harold Imperial ang siyang kumatawan sa Gobernador. Ang bahagi ng talumpati ni Governor Salceda, “ I always believe in good education as a stepping stone for self development and for the achievement of a better society and the advancement of civilization.” Kanyang ipinagmamalaking, siya ay produkto ng mga magulang na pawang guro. Sinabi ni Salceda, hindi sapat ang sampung taong basic education para maging sapat ang kanyang sandata sa pagpasok sa kolehiyo or fully equipped to enter into college. Aniya walang patid ang kanyang mga magulang sa pagsupurta sa kanya. Kaakibat ang kanyang sikap, tiyaga, determinasyon at pagmamahal sa bayan para marating ang kanyang kinatatayuan sa ngayon. Sabi ni Salceda, “ Not many of our students today are as fortunate as I was, to have availed of the kind of education that I had. That is why now that I am in the right position as, Governor of the province, I exert all legal influences possible to see to it that the lion’s share of the provincial budget is invested in education—36% of our budget goes to Education. The next highest budgeted item is Health—24%. Thus more than half of our budget goes to our dream of creating a society full of educated and healthy citizenry. But as they say, money is not all. We need methods and systems. Thus your coming to our province today, to review, on a global perspective, the K-12 curriculum and to make it updated to today’s learning systems is a vey welcome event. Its benefits would accrue to the benefit of our students and our tutors. I congratulate you for your concern and dedication for the betterment of our youth.
