“2. And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like - TopicsExpress

“2. And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made. 3. Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin...” (2 Kings 3: 2, 3). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams Of Joy Devotional today. Our Focal Scripture speaks of Jehoram, King of Israel. He did evil in God’s sight, but not as much as his father Ahab and mother Jezebel did. He took away the image of Baal, but retained the sins of Jeroboam. Baal was known beyond Israel in Old Testament times, and Baal worship was an open abomination; Jeroboam’s idols were however local and largely unknown outside of Israel. Jehoram discarded the open abominations of Baal, but retained the idols of Jeroboam. He discarded known abominations and held on to relatively unknown and less despicable abominations; he held on to sinful practices that didn’t attract much condemnation. Don’t we often discard open abominations, yet retaining secret abominations? We are often quick to put away public sins whilst retaining our private flaws. Friend, look inwards, are there secret sins and weaknesses in you that people don’t know about? Do you have secret flaws that are yet to earn you open condemnation? God says, discard every secret sin. Discard the weaknesses in you that people don’t know about. Discard prayerlessness, lust, procrastination, bitterness, envy, lateness, inconsistency, mediocrity, etc. Psalm 90 vs. 8 counsels: “Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.” So, your secret sins are no secrets before God; they can take you down if you hold on to them. Proverbs 28 vs. 13 further adds: “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Pray With Me: Lord, I discard every secret sin in my life, in Jesus’ name! Follow on Twitter @jerrystreams. Have A Blessed Sunday!
