2 Nd Letter to the city Manager, Trevor Fowler. ATT; MANAGER CITY OF JOHANNESBURG. MR; TREVOR FOWLER. Mr Fowler this is now the second letter that I’m writing you, I am a bit disappointed that you have not found the time to answer my first one. I write to you, to inform you of the non service delivery in my ward; ward 66 Let me elaborate. A few days ago I had a public meeting with pikitup, where the region manager was present, Mrs Rochelle Luddick, and some of her team leaders. The issues pointed out by me, made stronger by photograph evidence regarding proof of the service breakdown, where noted by pikitup with the promise of better future service. Unfortunately that is not the case, as I have noticed, since the meeting the area is even worst now. Quite frankly the meeting was a waste of time. There is no street sweeping taking place, there is litter strewn all over the place, there is dumping in every street corner, with no clear indication of them being cleaned up. So in short, pikitup is not performing according to standards, as a matter of fact, I would say currently I’m getting below substandard work from pikitup. City parks the same problem two to three times a year, I have to be on city parks back to get them to cut the grass, eventually when I do get them to perform their duties, I’m left with pieces of cut grass in places with pieces of uncut grass in other places, grass cuttings lying in piles, all over the place, for weeks and months without being collected. Tree branches lying on the pavements after the trees get trimmed, weeks at a time, not getting collected, creating a dumping environment. Lack of park monitoring or policing and the list could go on. JRA broken pavements and storm water drains in every corner of my ward, with no clear indication of them getting repaired, missing storm water covers in every single corner, roads falling apart, pavements dug up, and not reinstated, by Telkom, Neotell, or any other department that digs up the pavements in my ward. Crash barriers in a sad state of repairs, and grass grow half way in to the roads before it gets scoffed. Street name signs, freshly painted spelt wrong and again the list go on. Law enforcement. Trucks parked wherever they want, especially on pavements destroying them, demolishing storm water drains in the middle of the roads overnight, on the roads in residential areas, building rubble and building materials on the pavements, obstructing pedestrian traffic, also for months at the time. Illegal taxi ranks popping up in my streets unstopped. Illegal mechanic workshops operating from private residences, panel beaters creating noise and chemical pollution to the neighboring residents, and of course no action taken. Again no clear indication, of these transgressions being dealt with decisively. Then of course we have the call center problem, The cold fronts that we have had in recent weeks have became a crises, yes as much as the city hates the word crises, I will use it because the last couple of weeks ,it has become a crises. Mr Fowler, city power is not aware of power failures, because the call center does not work. Sir, my residents cannot get through to joburg connect, because the calls do not get answered, that is unacceptable. The residents have no other way out, but to call their respective ward Councillors for help, in which case the ward councillors becomes a call center, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That Sir is not the way a city should be run, the so called third class world city. Mr Fowler, as I am the Councillor in my ward, that makes me the representative of the ward, therefore it gives me the right to complain about service delivery, before coming to your level I complain, and report and represent obviously with no results, as it is quite obvious that there is absolutely no accountability, so I do my job any way I can. Now Mr Fowler, please, you do your job, so that hopefully I can do my job better, and start getting results, as you are the city manager, it is your responsibility to deliver service to my residents, and the residents and rate payers of Johannesburg.
