Hong and Nathan McIntire, Staff Writer POSTED: 06/11/09, 9:00 PM PDT | # COMMENTS PASADENA - Police have arrested 26-year-old Pasadena man in connection with a shooting of a Lancaster man inside a crowded restaurant last month. Investigators believe Dwayne Rice opened fire May 29 inside the Atlantis restaurant and nightclub on 162 N. Sierra Madre Boulevard, which was filled with people who had just attended a funeral service. David Crosby, 32, of Lancaster was killed. The motive appears to be gang related, police said. There were lot of gang members there when the shooting went down, said Pasadena Police Department Lt. Tom Pederson. Detectives had been working around-the-clock on the case since the shooting, Lt. John Dewar said. Rice was arrested Thursday evening at a home in the 2300 block of North Waterman Avenue in San Bernardino, officials said. He was apprehended without incident by detectives and the Pasadena departments Fugitive Apprehension Unit, police said. The suspect has an extensive criminal history and was on active parole, police said. He is being held without bail in Los Angeles County Jail. Police have said that, on the night he was shot, Crosby was with a group of people who had just attended the funeral of Darryl Stephens, a Pasadena City College football player. Stephens died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an Upland apartment on May 17. He and another man were considered suspects in the May 5 killing of a man in the unincorporated area near San Bernardino. Police said earlier that several people were with the shooter when Crosby was gunned down. Four to six people entered the restaurant and got into a confrontation, possibly physically, with the funeral party, police have said.
