2 Taliban men held for killing Sushmita The Paktika provincial law authorities on Tuesday announced that two Taliban men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Indian author Sushmita Banerjee, who was shot dead outside her home in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, India is awaiting the results of the probe into the killing of the author, though indicating there were some ‘family issues’ which could have led to her death. “Our initial impression was that there were some family issues, but we will wait for the final outcome as the local police would be in the best position to provide information to us,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said. The spokesperson said that the Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan had been in touch with her husband Janbaz Khan. “Our understanding is that her husband is in a very distraught situation. He also indicated that he had completed the final rites of Sushmita Banerjee. We are now in touch to see if there are any of her belongings which he would like to repatriate to India. We will work with him on that,” he added. He noted that the West Bengal Government had been informed about the current position on the matter.
