2 weeks ago I got a knock on my front door from a man I thought would never visit my house, Dr. Clark. I was blown away by the news he presented me with...my perfect 8lb. 8oz. babys second newborn screening came back abnormal and if for any reason she acted sick I needed to rush her to the emergency room immediately. He also wrote down some big words and numbers on a sheet of paper and told me to contact her Dr. (Dr. Slazman) the following Monday and he would explain in more detail. He also said I would be setting up an appointment with a specialist in Dallas soon. I googled the numbers and words he wrote down and it said organic acid disease =her body cant break down protein which causes harmful toxins to build up in her blood. If not treated it could cause developmental problems, seizures, mental retardation, and in some cases coma leading to death. It is a lifelong disease that cant be healed only managed. She would have to take dietary supplements and medicated formula for the rest of her life. I cried until I Had no more tears left. The following Monday her and I both had blood work and urine test done. The doctors told us it would take about a week to get the labs back to PCA and then PCA would fax them to the specialist and he would either say I need to set up an appointment and see this child or I dont need to see this child she is fine. PCA recieved the labs from the hospital and Dr. Salzman said that from what he can see the labs look normal but he is not the specialist and he doesnt want to make that call and there be something he isnt aware of, so PCA faxed those labs on Thursday at 12:40.. I received a call today saying that PCA called the specialist today and they said that those labs wouldnt be looked at until NEXT THURSDAY because they only read labs on Thursdays and only until 12:00. So I have sat here for TWO weeks wondering how in the world could there be something wrong with my perfect angel and how could everything fall apart so quickly..Im so tired of waiting to hear that she is okay. I have full faith in the Lord and i know that whenever I DO receive a phone call from the specialist God will handle everything and get us through it but for goodness sake could they not just give me peace of mind after waiting this long??????
