20-YEAR OLD IR STUDENT IS FIRST TO REGISTER AS OVERSEAS VOTER IN KENYA 13 May 2014 - A 20-year old Filipino student of International Relations (IR) is first to register as overseas voter in Kenya. The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi welcomed 20-year old Laurenz Nissi L. Natividad as the first applicant during the resumption of overseas voters registration. Nissi is a second-year IR student at the prestigious United States International University (USIU) located at the Kasarani district in Nairobi. She is one of the three Filipino students currently studying there. It was the first time that Nissi registered as a voter and she expressed her excitement about exercising her right to choose the future leaders of our country even when living and studying overseas. Nissi’s parents are engaged in various business undertakings in East Africa and in the United Kingdom. Asked why she registered as a voter, she said that voting is a duty as much as a right, and she believes that the youth have to be pro-active agents of change and development in the Philippines. Nissi vows to vote for candidates who are God-fearing and who love the country. She said she would choose leaders who she can emulate and consider as role-models. The registration period will end on 31 October 2015 and the Embassy encourages overseas voters to register early. END
