20 tidbits from 20+years ago.... 1. Our 1st date was: February 14, 1990, Valentine’s Day/Tad’s Chicken & Dumplins 2.One of our favorite places to eat back in the day was “Cattle Company” in Milwaukie 3. I went to school with Lonnie’s cousins and in all honesty, that is how we met/connected 4. Lonnie asked me out for more than a year, and each offer, I politely declined until Valentines Day, 90 5. We practiced being married by purchasing a home; I was 20 and Lonnie was 21.We also practiced honeymoons by partaking in the Coopers’ compliments of Isla Mujeres and Cancun 😊 6. One of our neighbors’ names was “Leo” who we later named our cat after 7. We worked out every day; we owned up to three dogs in an 800 sq ft house. Did I mention that we worked out? 8. I passed up a job at NIKE (Sorry, Briggs) to continue in property management because I thought that property management was a more familial choice 9. Lonnie proposed to me at Crowne Pointe in the Gorge; we ate afterward at Tad’s 10. Lonnie wanted to have his reception at the Forestry Center since he was 5 years old; when we first got engaged and called the Forestry Center, they were booked for 2 years in advance. There was a cancellation shortly after our inquiry, which resulted in the August 6th date 11. Lonnie picked out my bridesmaid dresses; black velvet on a 100 degree day in Portland at a church with no air conditioning😎 12. Lonnie got pulled over by a policeman for speeding on our wedding day; he was also not wearing his seatbelt. The policeman called me to verify his story with me, letting him off due to the validity 👮 13. We were married by a “female” pastor, which was very rare and adversely critiqued by many at the time 14. Our friends and family downed two kegs of beer before we even made it to our reception 😳 15. Our first dance was “Your Song” by Elton John; our slide show was played to Steve Miller Band, “Space Cowboy” and Eagles, “Life in the Fast Lane” 16. I sang “Love Will Keep Us Together” by Captain and Tennille with the my bridesmaids and friends as back-up dancers 17. We honeymooned in Tahiti; I was stung by a jelly fish and Lonnie had to pee on my inflamed ankle (instructions per the employee at our hut) which exploded to the size of my thigh 👀 18. We spent the majority of our honeymoon EATING, playing ping-pong and feeding a local horse on the island in Tahiti; we were also mesmerized by the many naked French tourists (all ages), especially the 80 year old woman who sunbathed at the pool right outside our hut 19. After marrying, we almost moved to Bend, but we weren’t sure it was big enough to sustain livelihoods and we didn’t think it had that many great restaurants at the time 20. After our wedding Lonnie was bummed, saying, “it’s just not fair that it’s over!”Still to this day he’s said it was the most fun he’s ever had wrapped up in one day and “we should do it every year”. Well, I can guarantee you after 20 years, I wouldn’t let him pick black velvet, ladies! Happy 20th Anniversary! ❤️❤️❤️
