20 years ago today I married the love of my life! We were young and madly in love with all odds and opinions stacked against us. Our theme song was Lets give them something to talk about. Two months after we married he took me to what he described as a tropical paradise and we spent the next 3 1/2 years learning to live as 1 in Panama City, Panama as he served the USAF. Those first three years many, many miles away taught us how to work things out together and neither of us could get mad and run to a parent. It was the best thing that ever happened to us. God knew exactly what we needed. All I ever dreamed of was being a wife and mom and God smiled over me 20 years ago. Honestly I had no clue of the man he was or was to become. There have been many difficult days and many challenges we have walked through but we never gave ourselves an option of opting out. The D word was never allowed in our vocabulary. We have never been mad and left to spend the night apart, although having some major arguments! We made a commitment for better or for worse and we have walked through both. The key is we walked through together and not apart. Over 20 years we never went to a parent mad at the other. I can not recall one time we went to a friend either, all we knew was we wanted more and a better life. We fought forward and the first 4 years we did not know Jesus at all. God just gave us an inner strength to keep pressing forward even when we did not give Him credit or recognize His grace and His guidance. He saw what was to come. I can not put into words the depths of my love for this amazing man! He always worked many jobs to care for us. He was never too good for anything. He would dig a ditch or pick up trash if need be. He has loved me and treated me with such respect. He has been by my side cooking, cleaning, wiping bottoms and walking through every mountain and valley hand in hand. He is my knight and shining armor! Chose more for your life! Chose to love with vulnerability and without any strings attached. Take risk together and never become a statistic. Try new things together always finding an adventure. Believe that fairy tales still exist and fight forward to live it. Silence all the lies that tell you the honeymoon is over or its too late to recreate the gift. I honor IV Marsh today for the amazing man of God he is, the strong provider, the gentle hand of guidance and encouragement, the unselfish giver of time, the dreamer of more, the shoulder of a best friend, the accountability pushing me to love deeper and trust more, the man who taught me not to take life too serious and taught me to laugh and relax, the man who held my hand through fear and guided me to not be held back, my love, my gift from God, my husband, my best friend!
