20 years is a long time to wait for a next album (Roger Waters take note) and when you read that it is made up of discarded material rejected from the previous album, it doesnt sound promising. But this is Pink Floyd so you know that said material will have been meticulously reworked and carefully crafted. If The Endless River is anything close to the 20 hours of leftovers then all I can say is that they chose the wrong music for The Division Bell which, by Pink Floyd standards, was not a great album. This one is sublime. Being almost entirely instrumental, we are spared the sanctimonious lyrics about the injustices of poverty which was always a bit hard to stomach coming from multi zillionaires. A lot of PF purists will scorn at the bonus rock out track which seems to pay homage, bizarrely, to Nirvana, but even this is beautifully executed. If you love music in such a way that you can only listen to it through decent hifi, undisturbed and undistracted, then this is for you. Buy it or steal it (dont worry, they have plenty of money).
