2002, I had work translating both english and hindi news into german. It was in the aftermath of the Godhra train arson and massmurder. At that time I still had the naive hope that the growth of indian news channels would help in creating much needed checks and balances - essential for effective and progressive democracy. Instead I was in for a shock - deliberate witchhunting - selectivization - gross misreporting of statistics - in short everything that forms the basis of propaganda. The hysteria that it was producing was a far cry from any responsible approach to any resolution of violent conflicts.
