2008 gave the signal that change was coming. There was talk of a paradigm shift, and everyone wondered what that meant. Some thought it would be the beginning of a new greater era. Some thought it would bring the demise of tradition, and that it would usher in an age fraught with trouble. The latter has been more the rule than the exception. For five years now, a bitter war of vocal discourse has pitted neighbor against neighbor in a battle of wills, and frustration is rising to a crescendo. Everywhere you turn people are anxious that no cure has been found for the perplexities that plague our nation. The younger generation seems more willing to accept fate while those over 40 would rather take back that which was. The reason for the despair of our youth is obvious. They have never witnessed or partook of the working laws of the Constitution. All they have seen is lies. All they have experienced is the heartbreak of a failing system. The rubber band has been stretched as far as it will go. It is about to break. And that might not be a bad thing. Those who remember America from the late fifties and 60,s know how well the system worked. But when there is no responsibility for dishonest actions, no punishment for wrongdoing for decades, faith, even in the greatest of societies is lost, and many never saw it work at all. Those that have not bear witness to the spirit of our Constitution in action cannot be expected to know how well it disciplined those who stepped over its line. Many of them don’t even realize it grants us the power to enforce it. Such action however; is a near impossible task in today’s world. It would take organization, cooperation, courage, strong will, and a common people to succeed. Great effort would have to be put forth. And the knowledge that terrible losses would occur would need to be realized. In 1773 the facts were the same as today. On the scales, acquiescence weighed the greater danger to man, and America was born. In being alive long enough to witness both weights on the scales, I agree with our founders, and have come to the same conclusion.
