201 years ago today, the maestro, Ludwig van Beethoven, personally - TopicsExpress

201 years ago today, the maestro, Ludwig van Beethoven, personally conducted the premiere of his Seventh Symphony. Generally, overshadowed by Beethovens Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Ninth Symphonies, Beethovens Seventh is itself one of his great works. Richard Wagner described it as the apotheosis of the dance. An all-star orchestra was assembled to perform the music at its premiere. Interestingly, among those all stars was Antonio Salieri, made famous by the fictionalized account of his relationship with Mozart in the movie, Amadeus. Take a moment to listen to the sublime 2nd movement (Allegretto), performed by the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of the great Leonard Bernstein: https://youtube/watch?v=vCHREyE5GzQ
