2014-06-10 LAM PASSENGERS STRANDED IN NAMPULA Passengers hoping to fly from the northern Mozambican city of Nampula to Dar es Salaam on Mozambique Airlines (LAM) on Sunday were kept waiting at Nampula airport for about six hours with no information as to why their flight was delayed and when they could expect to travel, reported the independent television station STV on Monday. Throughout their wait the airline not only kept its passengers in the dark, but gave them nothing to eat or drink. Eventually, LAM drove the passengers to hotels in Nampula city. On Monday, a LAM spokesperson told AIM that the flight to Dar es Salaam would finally leave Nampula at 18.45 on Monday evening, arriving in the Tanzanian capital 19.10 local time. This was the second problem LAM experienced within the space of three days. On Friday a LAM Embraer aircraft, flying the Tete-Maputo route, was forced to turn back half way through the flight because of a malfunction. After a two hour wait in Maputo the fault seemed to have been corrected, and the passengers boarded the plane again. But once again the flight was aborted and the plane returned to Maputo. LAM had to cancel that flight altogether, and find room for the passengers on a subsequent Maputo-Tete flight. Anyone seeking information about these problems from the LAM website will be disappointed. When AIM consulted the website on Monday, there was no information about the cancellation of the Maputo-Tete flight, or about the problems in Nampula.
