2014.6.2 La Jolla Shores (condition: waves were a bit strong and the surface was choppy. The shallow was warm and milky but down the canyon it was cold and crispy.) As the sea was choppy, I picked the South Wall as today’s dive destination. However, the plan was again unsuccessful. I lined up with Vallecitos street and dropped down right at the main draw. While I was about to swimming south, a group of four Cuthona divae with ribbon like eggs appeared right in front of my eyes on the wall. I only saw Cuthona divae once before and a group of them together was a real treat! After numerous shots and many minutes of video, I was finally ready to march along. However, before I started swimming, I noticed a large number of sea hares emerging from the grassy bottom. Clearly, a sea hare migration just got started. It seemed like they were coming up from the draw and marching east toward the canyon wall. Head-to-tail they formed lines, merging from different angles while they slowly marched up the slope. Unable to hold themselves against the surge, they swang along, sometimes rolled over. However, under such apparent weakness, a strong force inside these creatures was driving them relentlessly toward the same destination. Through my lens, I enjoyed a Nature’s magnificent show. Before I noticed, time was up and I had to go. The south wall would have to wait till the next time. The show down the canyon went on, and I felt lucky to catch a glimpse of its beauty.
