2014 Children’s Day: Reps felicitate with Nigerian children Abuja - The House of Representatives has congratulated Nigerian children as the world celebrates the International Children’s Day and re-affirmed its condemnation of the abduction of the Chibok girls. This followed a motion by Rep. Mulikat Akande-Adeola (PDP-Oyo), which was adopted when put to vote by the Speaker, Rep.Aminu Tambuwal. Akande-Adeola, in the motion, congratulated the Nigerian children but noted that the Chibok girls kidnapped on April 14 were yet to be found. She prayed that the Chibok girls would be found and brought back safe and healthy. Rep. Nnnena Elendu-Ukeje, (PDP-Abia), Rep.Abike Dabiri-Erewa,(APC-Lagos) also devried the abduction of the Chibok school girls, adding that they kidnap was unfortunate. Rep. Christopher Etta (PDP-Cross-River), urged Nigerians to use the children’s day to reflect on the plight of the child. Rep. Kamil Akinlabi (PDP-Oyo), called on governors and State House of Assemblies to domesticate the Child Rights Act to safe guard the lives of the children. Rep. Aminu Suleiman (PDP-Kano), called on the people to join forces and collectively tackle the insurgency in the country. “What is happening is unacceptable, Nigeria and Nigerians are united in this, and I pray that this unfortunate situation will be flushed out of our country’’, he said. The Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, stressed the need to encourage Nigerian children, adding that “there is hope in the country.” The House also resolved that in line with the provision of the state of emergency, procedures should be adopted to ensure the rehabilitation and re-integration of internally displaced children.
