2014 Decatur Swim Team Evaluations April 14 at 4:30pm, April 23 at 4:30pm, April 25 at 4:30pm Evaluations will be held at the Aquadome pool for swimmers aged 5-18. DST Swimmers will learn all the strokes and will be expected to participate in competitive summer swim meets. The team is not a replacement for swim lessons. Swimmers will practice daily in a large group setting and must be able to follow directions of the coaches. Requirements: No swimmer will be expected to have perfect technique or be fast. The 5 year old swimmers (5 by June 1) will be asked to swim freestyle half way down the length of the pool, preferably not hanging onto the lane ropes or just swimming underwater. The 6-8 year olds must be able to swim the length of the pool without pushing off the bottom or hanging onto the lane ropes. Ages 9 and up should be able to swim 2 lengths. Freestyle and backstroke will be evaluated. All swimmers should be able to put their head/face in the water while swimming freestyle. A brief group lesson will follow the tryout swim as an introduction to DST. This gives the coaches a quick view of the swimmers’ attentiveness, willingness to follow directions, and to share the pool with other swimmers. The length of tryouts will depend on the number of swimmers present. Wear your suit, bring a towel and goggles.
