Blues Weekend features Grammy Winner Chubby Carrier and Dozens of Other Great Blues Acts The 2014 Eureka Springs Blues Weekend will be held June 12 through 15 in historic Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Blues Weekend features local, regional, national and international blues acts, and is held in venues all around Eureka Springs. Headliner shows are held in the historic City Auditorium, late shows in the Barefoot Ballroom atop the 1905 Basin Park Hotel, and bands are playing in clubs all around town. Free music in Basin Spring Park will begin on Friday at noon with Brandon Santini, followed by Doghouse Daddies at 1:30 p.m. and Brick Fields at 3 p.m. and Danny Cox at 4:30 p.m. The Friday night headline acts at The Auditorium at 36 S. Main Street are Walter Wolfman Washington and Chubby Carrier. Showtime is 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Washington has been an icon on the New Orleans music scene for decades. His searing guitar work and soulful vocals have defined the Crescent Citys unique musical hybrid of R&B, funk and the blues since he formed his first band in the 1970s. Carrier is undeniably The Worlds Premier Zydeco Showman. Chubby is the third generation of zydeco artists with famous relatives who are presently considered legends in zydeco history. Carolyn Wonderland is a musical force equipped with the soulful vocals of Janis and the guitar slinging skills of Stevie Ray. She reaches into the depths of the Texas blues tradition with the wit of a poet. She hits the stage with unmatched presence. On Saturday, the free music will continue in the park again at noon with local drummer Angelo and a Blues for Kids Drumming workshop. Children can make and decorate drums and learn why drums are such an important part of Blues music heritage. At 1:30 Buddy Shute will take the stage with Isayah Warford at 3:00 and The Ariels at 4:30. A second show at The Auditorium begins on Saturday at 3 p.m. Performers include intense, flamboyant blues showman and solo winner of the Ozarks Blues Challenge, Lucious Spiller. Band winner of the Ozarks Blues Challenge, Brick Fields and The Chosen Ones will also take the stage. This band comes together with their natural approach of original Arkansas Blues using a Gospel platform as well as an Americana Soul feel. Joining them will be Moreland & Arbuckle, a guitar and harmonica duo with a sound that merges Delta Blues, folk, rock, traditional country and soul. Also taking the stage at The Aud Saturday afternoon is multi-talented musician and soulful vocalist Carolyn Wonderland. Wonderland hits the stage with an unmatched presence, a true legend in her time. Also appearing around town are Blew Reed, Brody Buster, Danny Cox, Jesse Dean, Earl & Them, Larry Garner, Steve Hester, Jeff Horton, Jigsaw Mud, Adam Johnston, Kris Lager, Levee Town, Stacy Mitchhart, Fast Johnny Ricker, Patrick Sweany, and Tightrope! Blues Weekend is a fundraiser for Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. Located just south of Eureka Springs, Turpentine Creek gives lifetime refuge to abused, neglected or abandoned wildlife, and is constantly building new natural habitats as funding permits. The weekend ends with a Fathers Day Blues Picnic at Turpentine Creek, located on Highway 23 South, on Sunday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The afternoon starts with Brick Fieldss Gospel Blues Brunch. Following will be Stacy Mitchhart Band. Stacy was the Albert Kind Award winner of the 2002 International Blues Challenge. To end the weekend, musicians who performed during Blues Weekend will take the stage for a legendary Blues jam. There will be food and drinks, arts and crafts, and fun activities for the kids, including kite flying with Kaliedokites on hand for the event. Admission is included in VIP and Weekend Passes, and only $5 per person at the gate. Kids under six get in free. Admission to the Refuge is separate from the admission to the Blues Picnic.
