*****2014 GOLD STAR MOTHERS DAY***** PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Congress by Senate Joint Resolution 115 of June 23, 1936 (49 Stat. 1985 as amended), has designated the last Sunday in September as “Gold Star Mother’s Day.” WHEREAS, the families of service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice deserve our respect, gratitude and the very best support we can provide for as long as they desire. WHEREAS, we are “The Land of the Free, The Home of the Brave” because of the devotion to duty of the men and women in uniform who put themselves in harms’ way to defend a people they love and a land they cherish and it is with great pride and humble hearts that we pay tribute to them. WHEREAS, as beneficiaries of those who died while ensuring better lives for us all, we vow never to forget the great price paid for our freedoms and safety. WHEREAS, we remember and reflect on the great Patriots, realizing that all gave, but some gave all. WHEREAS, we commemorate the contributions, commitment and sacrifice of the Gold Star Mothers and Families as they sit at tables with empty chairs, maintain folded flags which is the fabric of this great nation, over their mantles and as they continue to embody the values of honor, courage and commitment that exemplified their loved ones. Most of us can only imagine such great pain. WHEREAS, the Navy remains committed to support the Mothers and Families of its Fallen Sailors, while cherishing and honoring the legacies of their sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, husbands and wives. We shoulder with Gold Star Mothers and Families as they perpetuate the memories of their loved ones and keep them burning bright. NOW, therefore, be it resolved that I, Rear Admiral Mary M. Jackson, Commander, Navy Region Southeast, do hereby proclaim 28 September 2014 as Gold Star Mother’s and Family Day.
