2014 Kid Kart Nationals update! In 2013 Nick put on a good show in his first career start at the kid kart nationals by being fast in practice, sitting on the pole in qualifying, winning his heat race, and qualifying race. In the final we were sure Nick was going to win the 15 lap final due to the fact he was leading coming to the white flag lap, only to have a lapped kart get into him spinning, and ending his day one lap early. In late 2013 I asked Nick what he wanted to do in 2014, wether he wanted to race kid karts again or move up to rookie. Nicks reply was I want to go back to the Kid Kart Nationals and win the big trophy. With that said we decided to put the rookie kart on hold so Nick could fulfill what eluded him in 2013. The 2014 Kid Kart Nationals was stacked with the most talented kids from all around the country, just like 2013, and we new it was going to be tough to try and repeat our performance from last year. We spent the all day Friday practice trying different things to find speed, which resulted in getting faster every time out. Saturday practice went well leading up to qualifying. Nick qualified 4th out of 33 karts, and that was great because it put us on the pole for our heat race. Nick won his 10 lap heat race, which put us 4th in the qualifying race. Qualifying race was also 10 laps. Nick came home 2nd putting him on the outside of the front row in the final. In the 15 lap final Nick started 2nd and ran 2nd for most of the race showing great patience, just waiting to make his move. On the final lap Nick made his move in turn one on the leader with a calculated and well thought out pass. Nick led the final lap, winning by 2 seconds and bringing home the 2014 Kid Kart National Championship. I am so proud of the job Nick has done behind the wheel in the last 2 years of racing, but what I am most proud of is his confidence, patience, determination, and knowing what he wants to accomplish behind the wheel. This just shows that your kids can accomplish anything if they work hard enough, and put there mind to it. Nick new after 2013 that he wanted to go back and win the big trophy and he was able to do that. Now he can call himself the 2014 Kid Kart National Champion! Would like to thank Excel Racing for all the help and support. Also would like to thank Danco lettering for keeping all our karts looking good.
