Washington St., Delaware. 7:45 a.m. MONDAY Jan. 20 – 21st annual MLK Breakfast Celebration sponsored by Ohio Wesleyan University and the Delaware County Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee, in the Benes Room of OWU’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Bishop Gregory Vaughn Palmer, Episcopal Leader of the Ohio West Area of the United Methodist Church, will serve as keynote speaker. The breakfast buffet will begin at 7:45 a.m., followed by the program at 8:30 a.m. Individual breakfast tickets are $20, with eight-person table sponsorships available for $160. A limited number of tickets may be available at the door. 7 p.m. MONDAY Jan. 20 – Ohio Wesleyan presents its first program of the “Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle” series, which uses documentary films to encourage conversations about America’s civil rights history, in the Bayley Room on the second floor of OWU’s Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Film clips and a discussion of “Freedom Riders,” an Emmy award-winning documentary, will be guided by Hasan Jeffries, Ph.D., associate professor of history at The Ohio State University. Advance screening is encouraged but not required. “Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle” is made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities as part of its “Bridging Cultures” initiative, in partnership with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. 7 p.m. THURSDAY Jan. 23 – The Ohio Wesleyan President’s Commission on Racial and Cultural Diversity presents “White Like Me: Race, Racism & White Privilege in America,” a documentary film based on the work of anti-racist educator and author Tim Wise, who argues that society’s failure to come to terms with white privilege continues to perpetuate racial inequality and race-driven political resentments. The screening will be held in Benes Room B inside OWU’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Following the film, Paul Dean, Ph.D., Ohio Wesleyan assistant professor of sociology and anthropology, will moderate an audience discussion.
