2014 National State of the Birds Report Released Today This new State of the Birds Report highlights that bird populations are declining across several key habitats nation-wide, but in areas where a strong conservation investment has been made, bird populations are recovering and growing. The new report contains a “watch list” of bird species in need of immediate conservation help, highlights climate change impacts as a major threat, and identifies cat’s as the number one cause of human-driven bird mortality, after habitat loss. Point Blue’s data on seabirds from the California Current system was included in the section on ocean birds, and several of our staff served as reviewers of the report.
