2014 SWAPO PARTY ELECTION CAMPAIGN AND MANIFESTO LAUNCH Dear - TopicsExpress

2014 SWAPO PARTY ELECTION CAMPAIGN AND MANIFESTO LAUNCH Dear Compatriots, On Saturday, September 6, 2014, His Excellency Dr. Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of the SWAPO Party and the Republic of Namibia, launched the 2014 SWAPO Party Election Manifesto and Campaign in Windhoek. It was an overwhelming occasion, symbolising the start of an exciting journey leading up to our democratic process of electing our nation’s new government for the next five years in November. Throughout this period I will share some of my thoughts and ideas especially those centred on the newly launched SWAPO Party Manifesto. Today the topic of Unity comes to mind. Under this theme the SWAPO manifesto states that: “The SWAPO Party values unity of the people of Namibia. Unity is underpinned by the principle of inclusivity. It is through unity that the SWAPO Party was able to successfully carry out the political, diplomatic and armed liberation struggle for Namibia’s independence. This commitment to unity and inclusivity is entrenched in the SWAPO Party Constitution, culture and philosophy.” Furthermore in their book on the topic “Why Nations Fail,” Acemoglu and Robinson (2012) argued that Inclusive Political Institutions tend to support inclusive economic institutions. This leads to a more equal distribution of income, empowering a broad segment of society and making the political playing field levelled. They noted that “Inclusive economic institutions, are in turn supported by, and support, inclusive political institutions,” which “distribute political power widely in a pluralistic manner and are able to achieve some amount of political centralization so as to establish law and order, the foundations of secure property rights, and an inclusive market economy.” In this regard, His Excellency President Pohamba stressed at the launch that, “through this manifesto, we are reiterating our commitment to expand service delivery to all our people, creating opportunities for economic empowerment for all Namibians, and improving the living conditions of our people, especially those in rural and peri-urban areas.” As a proponent of the notion of ‘One Namibia One Nation,’ I agree and recommit that in the spirit of inclusivity we will continue to work towards empowering each citizen to realise their full potential in all spheres of society. No Namibian should feel left out, not now, not in the future! #InclusivityAndNotExclusivity
