2014 had a bunch of films dealing with God, Noah and Exodus from Hollywood and PK from Bollywood, after watching all three of these movies I can safely say PK is much better than Hollywoods offerings but the film could be a lot better. Its a decent albeit overrated film which has a few great ideas but it suffers from some typical Bollywood song and dance tropes which frankly tire me. Aamir Khans alien who is a logical being learns the ways of the Earth the hard way and realizes that only God can help him get back to his home planet. There are some hilarious scenes when PK mixes the religious practices and offends everybody but this segment is over an hour and a half long and should have been cut by half at least to make the film tighter and more focused. Also for a superior alien specimen PK sure isnt smart, if logic doesnt work with God 1, why will it work with God 2? Well PK realizes this by the time he reaches dumb religious practice no. 43 with God 7 or 8. I was screaming at the screen I GET IT HIRANI lets move the god damn (pun!) story forward. The song and dance sequences are boring and forced, movie would have conveyed its message better without them. Other major gripe I had was that PK was trying so hard to be logical and then it suddenly became illogical. When did the motivation become from going back to home planet to saving the human race from god men? Why care about the wrong number or anything at all on this planet other than securing your communication device? This ladies and gentlemen is called a bad script. PK is interested in god as long as he is rewarded but then he chooses to expose the god man as a fake/dhongi so that people awaken to the fraud but why does PK care to do this? Its never explained. Aamir, Anushka and Saurabh Shukla are good in their roles but why is Boman Irani so likable in all his roles, its impossible to hate this man. Other major issue I had with this film was the bad romance which was laughable and the twist was dumb. Which teenager wrote this? Hindi films have such high quality romance and this was pathetic, even lately The Lunch Boxs forbidden fruit love between two mature older people was so complex and handled with great care PK was just downright dumb in the romance department. Overall I would say PK has a very strong social message but there are abundant issues present in the film which doesnt make it the best Bollywood has to offer, there are much better Hindi movies than PK, Ugly (the last Hindi film I watched) and Haider both released this year and both miles ahead of PK of course they didnt spend crores on marketing thus they probably didnt get as much coverage as PK. P.S.- *Spoilers* The most interesting part of PK for me was the ending, which showed a near army of naked 6 pack men invading our planet for research if this is their research team I cant even imagine how big their forces will be, are they going to conquer earth? These are the hard hitting questions you ask aliens Anushka Sharma not whether you roam naked on your planet. Soon all the girls will fall in love with them because they are sensitive too in addition to their 6 packs and finally my parents can stop bugging me about marriage.
