2014 poll marks generational shift in TN politics Mar 22, 2014, 04.59 AM IST CHENNAI: A few months ago, PMK founder S Ramadoss unveiled what he termed a grand alliance of caste outfits and called it Tamil Nadus Social Democratic Alliance. He said PMK would contest the Lok Sabha elections as part of the SDA and have no truck with any Dravidian party. Six months later, his 46-year-old son Anbumani Ramadoss started a dialogue with BJP and wrapped up an alliance, ironing out differences and convincing his father that being part of the NDA made better sense for their partys prospects. The generational shift in TNs politics has never been more evident. Sons are taking over the mantle from their fathers, steering the talks with potential allies, chalking out campaign strategy, and influencing the choice of Lok Sabha candidates. Their sights may be set on the millions of young voters keen to exercise their franchise. While DMK treasurer M K Stalin and PMKs Anbumani have assumed executive cha8rge, relegating their fathers to an advisorial status, some like Karti Chidambaram are making a bid to inherit their political legacy. M Karunanidhi, P Chidambaram and Ramadoss were the face of DMK, Congress and PMK for decades. Now, the old guard is making way for the new. For Stalin and Anbumani, although they have been actively involved in party affairs, this is the first time they have stepped out of their fathers shadows to make decisive moves. It is evident that Karunanidhis role in this election is limited to that of an adviser. This is the first time in 60 years he is keeping such a low profile during a general election, said V M S Subagunarajan, a political researcher. timesofindia.indiatimes/home/specials/lok-sabha-elections-2014/news/2014-poll-marks-generational-shift-in-TN-politics/articleshow/32451682.cms?#write
