2014 started off like any of the past few years for me. I was doing some things, but nothing too much more extraordinary than the past couple of years. I ran the Houston Marathon again, ran a couple more half-marathons, and then a 50K in early April. In mid-April, after returning home from Austin after another lack-luster running performance, something inside of me clicked. I think it had a lot to do with becoming older than my mom was whenever she passed, and coming to terms with my dad passing too, but something clicked for me. I stopped worrying about dying and started focusing more on living. I started running a little harder and eating a little better. My weight started dropping again and I started feeling a lot better. Around my 37th birthday in June, I decided that I was going to start the prime of my life by the end of the Summer. I ended up dropping 42 lbs in 4 months. At the end of August, a few of us took a trip to Oregon/Washington. I ended up spending 10 days there, running on a few mountains, and running all of the way around Mt St Helens. When I got back from that epic trip, running started to get a lot more fun for me. Apparently the fast twitch muscles in my legs woke up and decided to join the party. Over the next couple of months, I ended up dropping PRs all over the place. I took over 5 minutes off of my 5K PR, over 12 minutes off of my 10K, more than 26 minutes off of my 10 miler, and more than 32 minutes off of my half-marathon PR. It definitely seems like Im starting my prime. ;) The year ended for me with a lot of time spent with family and friends. I ate too much and ran too little, but it was a great finish to an awesome year. The great news is that as great as 2014 was, I can easily make 2015 even better. :)
