2014 was a bumper year for the Information Studies Group. As we prepare to raise our glasses to the year that was, we thought we’d share some of the highlights. It really was a bumper year and that means there are far too many highlights to share them all. But over the next few days, we’ll post about some of the wonderful things our team achieved this year. Some of these achievements meant we had to say farewells… In July, we farewelled Professor Helen Partridge, who took up the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Scholarly Information and Learning Services) at the University of Southern Queensland. But never fear! We welcomed her back just a couple of days later as an Adjunct Professor. Congratulations Helen, and we look forward to working with you in your new role. We also said goodbye to Zaana Howard, who took up a new and exciting opportunity to put her PhD research on design thinking in complex organisations into practice, heading up a new area at a strategic design consultancy in Melbourne. Zaana continues to work with us as an associate supervisor for research students. Helen and Zaana’s departures meant new faces around the ISG office (and in our virtual spaces!) and new roles for existing members of the team. In January, we welcomed Elham Sayyad Abdi on board as an Associate Lecturer, and Kate Davis took on the role of Course Coordinator. Our formidable team of sessional academics grew and we welcomed a number of new casual teaching staff from around Australia. We also had a team of project officers who helped us progress a number of key projects, including implementation of the new degree, rethinking our approach to delivering course sites, and evaluating implementations of consumer technologies in our teaching. And in 2015, the team will continue to grow! We are looking forward to welcoming Kathleen Smeaton and Dr Andrew Demasson on board as part time Associate Lecturers from 1 January.
