2014 was an extraordinary year meeting folks in Boston and building a network of supporters and community partners to discuss Phoenix Multisport’s expansion there this year. We met Mayor Marty Walsh and discussed his vision, which we share, in combating addiction and supporting recovery. There are so many programs in Boston doing amazing work and we are eager to join them. We are particularly grateful for the Lynch Foundation who are excited to see Phoenix Multisport establish a strong presence in Boston. They approved a $250,000 challenge grant which means we must raise the other $250,000 in order to receive their funding. Through committed supporters, we have already raised $20,000 towards this challenge. This is an amazing start, but we have a lot of work to do to ensure Phoenix Multisport is on the ground helping those suffering from addiction in the Boston area. Heroin and cocaine remain the most abused substances in Boston and surrounding communities. With heroin abuse and overdose on the rise across all demographics, parents fear for their children’s lives. In Boston, unintentional overdose is at an 11 year high. Treatment admission rates and arrests due to heroin are also on the rise. Families and communities are suffering. The gap between service needs and care is profound, but with the expansion of Phoenix Multisport to Boston, we seek to offer an approach to recovery that has made a difference in Colorado and will make a difference in Massachusetts. We know that Phoenix Multisport saves lives and helps people recover. We need donor support to reach this $250,000 challenge grant by June 30, 2015. We look forward to establishing Phoenix Multisport in Boston as a model for treating addiction and supporting long term recovery with the free programs that we offer to anyone who is 48 hours clean and sober.
