2015 Happy ... Sad Happy New Year everyone! 2015 promises to be a great year for Gridiron in Australia. With the Junior Nationals, the Senior World Cup, Future Stars, USA Football Tour for our U19s and great state competitions being held throughout the year, our sport appears to be growing daily. As we set forth on these adventures, I would like to ask all of our Gridiron community to take a moment to reflect on the contribution of a great man, who with the help of a great family, was instrumental in establishing Gridiron in Australia. Fred Burson sadly passed away earlier this week and the contributions of himself along with Melba, Janice, Jim and their families to our sport, right across our nation in the early years, need to be recognized. Fred, a member of the Gridiron NSW Hall of Fame, was known across all of the states of Australia as a friend and mentor to everyone who shared his love for our sport and more importantly his love of people. Many of us owe a debt of gratitude to this man who was strong on character and led by example. Whilst Fred has not been a part of our game in recent years, if you get the opportunity to speak to someone who knew Fred, there will be universal confirmation that he was a great man, coach, mentor, administrator and friend. RIP Fred Burson. Fred will be bid farewell in a small family service and rather than flowers, a donation to Muscular Dystrophy Foundation would be preferred. mdaustralia.org.au/give-support/donate/
