2015 Legislatative Race: Elechi Canvases More Time For Members The Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Martin Elechi has canvassed for more time to be given to the legislatures in the county, to enable them acquire enough experience necessary for the advancement of our democracy. Governor Elechi, who made the call during the 34th State Executive Committee Meeting (SEC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the Party Headquarters in Abakaliki explained that with more chances of re-election of members of the National Assembly, the better for the country, in term of having solid parliament. He lamented that a situation wherein legislatures in country were continually changed after a short period of time does not give room for stable and experienced parliament. “We spent so much time, energy and resources to groom parliamentarians during their first tenure. Let us not be too much in a hurry to change our legislatures, except there is a justifiable reason”, he warned. According to him, a recent study shows that only 32% of the members of the National Assembly return back after their first tenure, which is not acceptable. He argued that even 50% or 60% return remains a bad situation considering where Nigeria democracy is going. The Ebonyi Chief Executive said that the concept of ‘it is my turn or our turn syndrome’ is killing our democratic development. He explained that at a recent National Executive Meeting of PDP, pledges were made to support National House of Assembly members return for the sake of the growth of our democracy. It was on this note, that he said that the Ebonyi State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Part (PPD), Prince Ugoji Ama Oti, who had served 8 years, in Ebonyi State House of Assembly would be given another opportunity to represent his constituency at the Federal House of representatives in Abuja come 2015. Responding, the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Ugoji Ama Oti called on the members to continue to be loyal to the party, assuring that a level playing ground would be given to all aspirants. By WILFRED CHIMEREMEZE. Any legislator that go there to enrich himself only and neglect those he is suppose to be serving should never go near that seat again. His people should make sure that he does not go near such place again. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. - Afikpo People.
