2015 MAKING THEM ALIVE Series: ILYA YEFIMOVICH REPIN (Russian, 1844-1930). Repin brought people alive on canvas like few in the history of painting. He painted almost exclusively from life (in his late years he occasionally used photographs), in a variety of paint handlings, from more impressionistic, even wooly to more polished.
