2015: Oro Think Tank refutes media reports -Makes case for power-shift By Victoria HANSON The chairman of Oro Think Tank, Comrade Okon Osung has debunked a news report, alleging that “Oro nation sold out 2015 governorship for N250m, at the PDP mini-convention,” in a local tabloid in the state, describing the publication as a “yellow journalism”. Comrade Osung who made this statement in a press conference at the NUJ Press Centre, Uyo, also made a case for the governorship position of the state in 2015 to be zoned to Oro nation in keeping faith with the concept of zoning as a cardinal principle of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) as captures in section 7 (2) (c) of the party’s constitution. He said that the people of Oro nationality appealed to the people of Akwa Ibom state to abide by the zoning formula which would shift the governorship position to Eket senatorial district in general with particular reference to Oro. He noted that during the just concluded PDP mini-convention, Abuja, the state governor put all controversies to rest at Akwa Ibom House by declaring that the next governor must come from Akwa Ibom South (Eket) senatorial district, saying that the people of Oro nationality were grateful to the governor for the proclamation. Comrade Osung disclosed, however, that the governor’s statement has deepened the confidence of Oro people in Akpabio’s abiding fidelity to the noble principles of justice, equity and fair-play, noting that it would build solid foundation for ethnic concord, security and rapid development of the state. He described as false reports that Akpabio has anointed a particular governorship aspirant from Eket senatorial district, noting that there were detractors seeking to capitalise on what the governor did not say during the mini-convention to cause tension and acrimony in the state. He urged the people of other ethnic groups in the state to support Oro governorship in 2015 as that would solidify the bonds of brotherhood among the various nationalities.
