2015: PDP MOVES TO GIVE AUTOMATIC TICKET TO JONATHAN The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the weekend, began a process for the amendment of the party’s Constitution in what is widely believed to favour the sole candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan in the race for the 2015 presidential election. The party kicked off the process with its Anambra State chapter which over the weekend, passed a resolution to amend the PDP Constitution, so as to give an automatic ticket to President Jonathan in the party’s primaries for the 2015 presidential election. A motion to amend the PDP Constitution to pave the way for Jonathan as the sole presidential candidate was moved by the state’s PDP chairman, Prince Ken Emeakayi, and unanimously endorsed by members that witnessed the special rally held at the Ekwueme Square in Awka, at the weekend. Speaking on the import of the resolution, which would be taken to the entire 36 state chapters for ratification before its final adoption and insertion into the PDP Constitution at its next national convention, Emeakayi justified the action, saying “Jonathan is doing very well and therefore deserves an automatic ticket for a second tenure.” Having adopted a resolution giving the automatic ticket to Jonathan, the party proceeded and launched what it called operation called “win to win”, designed to make PDP emerge victorious during the scheduled local government and governorship elections in the state. This was also followed by a declaration bringing the age-long party crisis in the state to an end. On the occasion, the party also presented its 11 governorship aspirants for the November 16 poll in the state. Emeakayi urged the party members to go home and work hard to ensure victory for the PDP in all the 326 wards of Anambra. He said that the crisis in the party was over and had been fully resolved, adding that the aspirants owed it a duty to ensure that whoever is selected among them as the party’s candidate is given the necessary supports. “We have come here to launch ‘Operation win to win.’ I urge you to go home, tell those who are still angry that the fighting is over and the crisis has ended; we want all the PDP members to be united. You should begin from now to reach out to your members at the ward and various levels,” Emeakayi enjoined. The governorship aspirants who attended the rally and made speeches include Barrister Obinna Uzoh, Chief Akachukwu Nwankpo, Mrs. Josephine Anenih, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, Senator Emma Anosike, Walter Uba Okeke, Barrister Sylvester Okonkwo, Comrade Tony Nwoye, Jerry Ugokwe, Ugochukwu Okeke and Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu. The ceremony was also witnessed by key zonal officers and representatives of National Working Committee officers, including the South East Zonal chairman of PDP, Col. Austin Akobundu, and the Director of Statistics at the PDP headquarters, Dr Effiong.
