2015 Programs from the Thomaston Historical Society 5/11 A Walk down the History of Thomaston’s Hyler Street. 7:00 pm Thomaston Historical, Society, 80 Knox St., Thomaston. Historian Peggy McCrea will give an in depth history of the history of Hyler Street and its development, in the first in a series of Streets of Thomaston in which an in-depth history of the street and its development will be given. 6/8 Dressing the New Republic. 7:00 pm Thomaston Historical Society, 80 Knox St., Thomaston. Author and costume expert, Julie Stackpole, offers an illustrated guide of your American dress for men and women evolved from 1775 to 1805 and also will offer do’s and don’ts for those dressing to period 7/11 Summer House Tour 66 Hyler Street, Thomaston. Tour this grand Victorian with water views and exquisite gardens. $5.00 for members and $8:00 for non-members. Refreshments provided. 7/25 Celebrate the Birthday of Henry Knox, Revolutionary War General and First Secretary of War. After attending the ceremony at the grave site in the Thomaston Town Cemetery at 10:30 am, join the “Cut the Cake” party at Montpelier, Route 131, Thomaston. Hosted by the Thomaston Historical Society and Montpelier, The General Henry Knox Museum. 8/11 100 Portraits of Thomaston World War II Heroes 7:00 pm Thomaston Historical Society, 80 Knox St., Thomaston Desiree Genthner and Susan Devlin will provide portraits of Thomaston soldiers, airmen, sailors and observers who help America win war – including a special tribute to Capt. Woodrow Wilson who recently died at the age of 102. 9/ 8 Local Native Americans 7:00 pm Thomaston Historical Society, 80 Knox Street, Thomaston. Skip Brack, founder, owner and curator of the Davistown Museum in Liberty, ME, will talk about Norumbega Reconsidered: The Mawooshen and the Wawenoc Diaspora. 10/12 Early Maine Gravestones 7:00 pm Thomaston Historical Society, 80 Knox St., Thomaston. An illustrated talk on the symbols and language used on 18th and early 19th Century gravestones in Maine, primarily in the mid-coast area. Presented by Ellen Dyer, an independent museum consultant who has spent the last fifteen years visiting and recording some of Maine’s early cemeteries. Ellen Dyer will lead us through the evolution of the style of grave stones in the 18th and 19th century. 12/4-12/5 Home for the Holidays House Tour. The Capt. Barnabus Webb House on 105 Maine St. Thomaston is an outstanding example of Victorian architecture in Thomaston. The house will be fully decorated for the holidays. Enjoy this historic home with a wine reception, live music, and both live and silent auctions, on Friday, 6 to 8 pm. The home will be open to tour and to participate in the silent auction on Saturday 10 to 4.
