2015 Prospectus and Online Application- Arts to Zion Open Studio Tour “Arts to Zion” Art and Studio Tour/Southern Utah Jan. 15-19th, 2015 (Martin Luther King weekend) (Please read the following, and at the very bottom, you will find the actual application link.) PROSPECTUS ”Arts to Zion” Art and Studio Tour/Southern Utah is a self-directed mufti-faceted Art walk and Studio tour whereby the public is invited to purchase a ticket ($10.00 ea.) to enter artist workplaces (10am-3pm) to view art, learn about artists processes and inspiration, and to make purchases. We also have our “Hub” gallery walks with nationally known artists present (4-8pm), and special events after hours (8-?) throughout Washington County. This year we are showcasing musicians during our “Hub” gallery walks, (which will follow the open studios.) from 4-8pm and after-parties from 8-? pm and we are including our museums on our map. 1. Studio tour locations are strictly limited to the defined Washington County map area. Outside of the area artist’s can participate, but must be sponsored by a participating gallery and/or become a member of the Southern Utah Art Guild for 2015 ($35.- New artists must also be juried.) TOUR will assign a temporary studio. Artists represented by our “Arts to Zion” art galleries will participate through your participating galleries, unless you have made written arrangements with your gallery to open your home for this TOUR event. Application forms for TOUR will be provided by your gallery shortly. Please do not fill out this application if you are sponsored through our Arts to Zion galleries, unless you have the written clearance from your gallery. This application is for Open Studio artists only. 2. Artists who do not have a studio within the defined map area must show at an approved venue, either in a local participating gallery, at another artist’s home studio, or one of our temporary studio locations. 3. All Tour locations must be open for the entire time scheduled publicly, on the tour weekend. Schedule A. Thurs. Fri. Sat. & Mon. 10am-3pm (Closed Sunday.) OR Fri. Sat. Sun. & Mon. 10am-3pm. 4. Artists are responsible for collecting and remitting sales tax on all sales. (Utah special event Sales Tax #’s will be provided if needed.) 5.Artists are responsible for insuring their studios for this event. (Applicable to homeowners.) 6.Artists must pick up brochures and signs promptly when notified. 7.Artists must commit to distributing the studio tour information before the event and to setting up appropriate signage to direct visitors to their studio. 8.Artists in home or temporary studios must designate, send image of, and donate a piece of their work to the silent auction, proceeds of which will support the “Arts to Zion” Art and Studio Tour through the fiscal sponsorship of the Southern Utah Art Guild. It will provide marketing outside the Washington County. 50% of the proceeds will be returned to the artists. (If sold, SUAG membership will belong to selling artist for 2014) (If unsold, artwork will be returned to artist.) 9.Artists represented by our “Arts to Zion” art galleries will participate through their participating galleries, application forms for tour will be provided by your gallery. 10.All participating Artists must plan to attend scheduled meetings when required and commit to help ensure its success for all concerned. 11. (4) digital images of artist work (#1 being their actual silent auction item.) must be submitted via online application for promotional use and advertising. (see application for details.) IMPORTANT: The deadline for submitting the Application and Release Forms is Sept. 1st. 2014. Late fee is $50.00. Absolutely no applications will be considered after Sept. 18th, 2013. Jury process for new artists begins Sept. 18th and applicants will be notified by the Sept. 30th. Artist Applications: Artists participating in the “Arts to Zion” Art and Studio tour must be juried for acceptance into the Tour. After acceptance, artists are subject to re-jury every 4 years to ensure the standard of work is maintained. Participants must submit an application and email representative digital images work. (Online submission of application is strongly encouraged.) Applicants will be notified by Sept. 30th of their acceptance or rejection. Standards of Work: All work submitted for jury and sold during Tour must be their original artwork, of professional quality, and handcrafted by the applicant. Works may not be produced from commercial kits or prefabricated forms. Second hand items, imports, or Giclee are not accepted. Silent Auction Items: Artist will set the price, send image of actual piece, bring it to silent auction in January or sooner if requested, and retain the artwork if not sold…50% of proceeds to artist, 50% to Art and Studio Tour through Southern Utah Art Guild for the “Arts to Zion” marketing. Remaining artwork MUST BE PICKED UP BY THE ARTIST AT THE HUB (TBA) IN ST.GEORGE, UT IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE TOUR. The “Arts to Zion” TOUR will not be responsible for artwork left unclaimed. Proceeds will be sent via Southern Utah Art Guild within 30 days of the event. Sharing Venue Space and Encouraging Visitors: Venues have more visitors when there is more than one artist showing. Artists who would like to participate but who do not have a TOUR approved home studio in the designated map area are responsible for finding their own space to show by contacting TOUR for a venue. (Most venues on the TOUR will be happy to share studio space to ensure good traffic.) There will also be temporary locations provided through Arts to Zion for the open studio tour. You can create a cluster of venues by inviting artists in your area to participate.Please name the specific artist on your application, if the above applies. Recommendations for Participating Studios: 1. Artists are greatly encouraged to provide demonstrations of their artistic process while open to the public during the Arts to Zion TOUR 2. If not actually creating art during the Tour, it is highly recommended that each studio has an actual art production area (materials and tools displayed, half finished works, etc.) open to the public (besides the art, this is what the public comes to see.) 3. Studio spaces must be suitable for showing work and welcoming visitors: appropriate lighting; sufficient space for art to be displayed in a presentable manner; and room for visitors to move around comfortably, etc. 4. Parking should be considered and space for parking should be available for visitors. As a TOUR participant, you will receive: 1. Listing by name and studio location, (with color image if selected for open home tour) in the official Arts to Zion TOUR brochure. 2. Listing by name and studio location on “Arts to Zion” TOUR website, with images of your work. 3. Link from TOUR website to personal website, if appropriate. 4. TOUR publicity (street banners, print and online advertising, email announcements, newsletter and catalog, and more.) 5. New! Sponsor basket drawing in private studios, to encourage ticket sales and to collect patron data. 6. Exterior signage to guide guests to your home studio (If selected for home tour.) 7. Images should be the most representative of works that will be available during the Tour. (Image #1 of actual silent auction item, and image #4 of artist in studio for promotional purposes.) 2. Images must be high quality JPEG Format. The best size ranges around 448 x 336 (49.1 kb) and 720 x 533 pixels (give or a take a little.) 3. Each image should be identified and numbered - “First Name, Last name, 1-4” Please include as one of these images, the artist working or pictured with their art and a statement for the Arts to Zion Facebook page for promotional purposes. Guidelines for All Artists: New artists/galleries must be a member of the Southern Utah Art Guild in 2015. SUAG Membership fee of $35.00 is due after the Jan. 15-19th, 2015 “Arts to Zion” TOUR, if your artwork sells at silent auction, that will count as membership for 2015.
