2015: SOUTH-SOUTH CALLS ON JONATHAN TO CONTEST Category: Inside politics Published on Monday, 03 February 2014 05:00 Written by Adelanwa Bamgboye Hits: 434 The South-South People’s Assembly has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2015 presidential elections in consonance with section 131 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In a communiqué issued at the end of an expanded National Working Committee meeting held recently in Abuja, the group appealed to Nigerians to, in the spirit of national unity and solidarity, give their support to President Jonathan. On the national conference, the group saluted President Jonathan for his will and courage to convene a national conference by hearkening to the call of Nigerians. The group also commended some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the National Assembly who in defiance of the APC directives participated in the screening of service chiefs and consideration of the 2014 Appropriation. While appealing to Nigerians to always imbibe the virtues of peace and love, the group however, stressed that it is only when this is done that the ties of national unity will be strengthened. The group said that unfortunately, the unending crisis in Rivers State has been seized by political gladiators to make it a national spectre for their personal interest adding that the critics throw salvos and invectives at the Federal Government whereas the same people are complacent and indifferent over the unrelenting Boko Haram insurgency in the North East and the intra-party killings in Ogun and Ekiti State.
