2015 is in full swing! MESSAGE TO ALL FROM AFRICAT AS WE START THE NEW YEAR! ‘Conservation is about People...’ Namibia’s wildlife draws tourists to visit our wildest places, many of which are home to communities who depend on the land and its resources to survive; organisations such as AfriCat are dedicated to the conservation & protection of this land & its wildlife and supporting the people who live there. As guest- books resound with inscriptions “such enjoyment, experiences and memories to last a lifetime” and a ‘pat on the back’ for a job well done, the question remains: ‘how can Wildlife Conservation & Community Support be sustainable?’ 2015 promises to do just that, with the development of two recently allocated eco-tourism ventures within the Hobatere Concession Area (a 34 000 ha, wildlife protection area, extending Etosha NP to the west), one supporting the Ehirovipuka Conservancy along its northern and western borders and the other, the !Khoa di //Hoas Conservancy, to the south......at last, long-awaited revenue will be generated through tourism and properly managed to inspire community commitment to protecting their valuable resources for generations to come. AfriCat applauds the visitors to our country who have contributed towards creating sustainable solutions to Human-Wildlife Conflict in these ‘hot-spot’ communities, as ‘Ultimately Conservation is about people.
