What is the ISMOPH and the WCPH? The World Congress on Public Health (WCPH) is the worlds largest Public Health Congress. It is an international Congress conducted every three years since 1975.The congress is organized by the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA) in collaboration with national public health associations that are members of the Federation. The congress is a big international event which is supported by UN Agencies, primarily the World Health Organization and UNICEF and is closely followed for its most valuable recommendations and input in on global public health concerns. Last one was held in Addis, Ababa in 2012 and the upcoming WCPH will take place from 11th - 15th February 2015 in Kolkata, India. The theme for the 14th World Congress on Public Health is “Healthy People – Healthy Environment”. Participants of the congresses include delegates from public health associations of the world countries, as well as representatives from the public and private sectors, representatives from public health related sectors and NGOs based in member states of the World Federation of Public Health Associations. The WCPH brings together several thousand public health professionals and practitioners, academics, researchers, policy-makers and international stakeholders from around the world. This five-day event will provide a unique opportunity to share experiences, exchange knowledge about effective policies, programs and best practices for public health. The Congress will also provide a platform to debate and discuss prevailing and emerging global health issues The International Students Meeting on Public Health 2015 (ISMOPH) is an official satellite event of the WCPH. It provides the opportunity for students from all fields of health (i.e. medicine, pharmacy, public health, nursery, etc.) to meet, exchange ideas and jointly prepare for the conference. The ISMOPH starts 2 days before the WCPH, it is going to be held on 9th and 10th February in Kolkata. It is a unique opportunity that brings together students from different parts of the world and from different health related studies, and poses the opportunity to unite the voice of students on an international level. This unique student event was organized in Istanbul in 2009 for the first time in the history of World Congresses of Public Health. Proposed, planned and organized by students, ISMOPH became a real success, because it managed to gather over 120 students from 45 countries accross the world, allowed them to discuss global health issues, to share their ideas, to draft & announce the student declaration and to interact with world leaders and experts in public health. The ISMOPH is a vibrant forum organized by the Student Assembly of Public Health, India (SAPHI) in association with the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA), African Public Health Students association (AfPHSA) and American Public Health Association- Students Assembly.
