2016 Mazda CX-5 Facelift. Even though its a brand new model, still in its infancy, the CX-5 is one of the best selling Mazda models right now. To keep this momentum going in the face of ever-increasing competition, the Japanese company is working on a mild facelift for its compact SUV. Our spies in Germany have just sent us the first ever photos of the Mazda CX-5 receiving a facelift. The changes only target a few elements, like the headlights, taillights and grille. All seem to fall in line with the latest KODO design language evolution seen on the smaller Mazda2/Demio supermini they just revealed. There arent that many things that Mazda can do to the engine range of the CX-5. Almost all models are made at the Hiroshima factory with global sales intent, so the 2.0-liter, 2.5-liter and 2.2-liter (diesel) should carry over with only minor tweaks. However, small improvements to the transmission and suspension will be made for the sake of comfort and refinement. Hopefully, the 2016 model year will finally see the introduction of a diesel CX-5 in North America. If this were a German car, it would take about a year for it to enter production from the stage were seeing it at. But the CX-5 is built in Japan and was developed there as well. So were likely witnessing the mid-to-last stages of testing before these updates are ready to debut. With 59,384 CX-5 sold for the year to date in America alone, Mazda is reporting a demand increase of over 15%. The Skyactiv SUV is their second best selling model, thanks to an all-new platform and could be joined by a smaller crossover called the CX-3 some time in the next year.
