20th January, 2014 Home OAU students lament death of lecturer, colleague JANUARY 20, 2014 BY SODIQ OYELEKE Leave a Comment Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Monday lamented the death of one of their lecturers in the Philosophy Department, Moses Oke, and another student in Foreign Languages, Titilayo Orogbemi. Oke, an Associate Professor of Philosophy, died last Wednesday in an auto crash along the Ife- Ibadan Expressway. It was learnt that he was heading for the University of Ibadan to supervise a Ph.D examination when he had the accident. Also, Orogbemi died last Thursday in Akure, Ondo State capital. Orogbemi had called her friends two days before her death to inform them that she was sick, but did not say the nature of the sickness. A professor of Nuclear Physics in OAU, James Alomo, has been declared missing and has not been found since about 100 days. However, the students lamented that frequent loss of lecturers might affect the standard of teaching in the university. One of them, identified simply as Kehinde, said, “This is one death too many. He (Oke) is a friendly teacher who ensures that students understand whatever he teaches. He will be missed a lot in the department and the university as a whole.” Another student, Fadeke said, “It is obvious that he impact on the development of the department will be missed. This is why the department had to suspend some classes in his honour. I pray his soul rests in perfect peace.” Also, students in the Department of Foreign Languages held a candle night possession in honour of their dead colleague.
