20th July 2013, day 1 of the Grindelwald trip and it decided that we need to get big mountain fit. So its a train, bus and cable car ride to Gimmerwald and then a long walk/climb up the valley to the Rotstock-hutte. Time for lunch. All the time our summit is obscured by cloud. The route then climbs beside a stream which has to be crossed - wet feet- and then its across a snow field and onto the ridge. The ridge is very interesting in that part of it has ropes and chains and yet another section has a staircase fastened to the crag. Eventually, the summit of The Schilthorn can be seen or at least the restaurant. It turns out that this featured in a Bond movie. The intention was to walk down but the top part of the descent was covered with snow and ice and fell shoes did not seem appropriate so we took the cable car.
