21 November 2014 Dearest All in the Lord!! The great Saint John of Damascus preached in a homily that an angel made an announcement to Saints Anne and Joachim, the parents of Mary, soon after she was conceived. The angel told them that she was to be the future mother of the Messiah. Mary’s holy life and purpose was known on Earth even before her birth! Knowing this special purpose, once she was of age, Mary’s parents brought her before the High Priest. She was consecrated in the holy temple of God and lived there for some time. You and I celebrate this event today. The Feast of the Presentation of Mary is a very ancient remembrance of the Mother of God celebrated in the Church of the East and West. All Feasts of Mary are about the Mystery of Christ. Today’s celebration is about the way God prepared for the incarnation of his beloved son, Jesus. With today’s feast, the Church begins a procession of Marian feasts leading up to Christmas. The Presentation of Mary, the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Guadalupe keep drawing our attention to the theme of preparation. God prepared constantly throughout salvation history for the great event of the Incarnation. Let your celebration of the Virgin Mary today sharpen your awareness as you prepare for the Feast of the Incarnation.
